  Electrical Safety of TOE Probes

Before any TOE probe is used it should be electrically safety tested. Electrical testing will pick up what your eyes may not...

TOEprobe1

This looks like the bending section of any TOE probe, however, this probe fails electrical leakage test.

When you look closer you will see why. Notice the strand from an articulation wire !!

  TOEprobe3

Inspection inside the probe revealed an articulation wire starting to break. A single stainless steel thread had broken and punctured the bending rubber.

The diligence of the staff at this hospital prevented a possible nasty injury occuring. To safeguard your patients we recommend:

  • Electrically test TOE probes before use.
  • Visually inspect the insertion tube before use.
  • Check articulation for excess end play.
  • Pro-actively get probes tested and articulation cables replaced.
